What Is A Mi-ki?
Pronounced (me-key)
- Rare toy breed - average adult weighs 3 - 8 pounds
- Share common ancestors with Papillon, Maltese and Japanese Chin breeds
- About 500 live in the U.S. -- thought to have origins in Penang off Malaysia and came to the U.S. in the late 1980s
- Calm -- excellent therapy dogs
- Great companion dogs -- happy, loving and sweet
- Very healthy
- Intelligent and easy to train
- Don't need to be walked, happy in condos and apartments
- Will use a litter box or newspaper or can go outside as you desire
- Long hair, not fur, that requires little grooming (typically combing once a week with a metal comb)
- Very little shedding, if any at all. Some people who are allergic to dog hair or dander experience no allergic reaction around these dogs.
- Love kids, cats, dogs -- large and small (but won't argue with being the only dog either!)
- Bi-colored, tri-colored and solids, but solids are rare and prized
- Colors include cream, red, silver, black, white, blue, apricot, sable, gold, brown, beige and chocolate
- Two coat types -- long and smooth (smooth coats do not have beard and mustache)
- Live into their teens
- Recognized by the States Kennel Club, International All Breed Kennel Club, National Canine Association and Bahamas Kennel Club
- Registry for pure bred mi-kis -- Mi-Ki Breeders USA
